FRANKLIN FURNACE — Down but not out.

Trailing by two runs in the top of the seventh inning, the Rock Hill Redmen rallied to tie the game and then scored three times in the ninth to beat the Green Bobcats 8-5 on Tuesday.

“It was a well-played game and we got a well-pitched game by Tayte Carver,” said Green coach Dan McDavid.

“But give Rock Hill the credit. They got the hits when they needed them and (Cody) Lewis came in and pitched real well for them.”

Lewis came on in relief and went 4.2 scoreless innings. He struck out eight, walked two and gave up just one hit.

Tayte Carver worked the first seven innings for Green. He struck out seven, walked two and only two of the five runs he allowed were earned.

Green took a 2-0 lead in the first inning.

Rylee Maynard reached on an error, Tayte Carver singled and stole second and Trevor Carver had a two-run single.

The lead went to 3-0 in the third when Tayte Carver and Josh Karshner singled and Trevor Carver grounded out.

Rock Hill got two runs in the fourth. Kyle Stanfield singled and Lewis had an RBI double. Lewis scored when Kaleb Kidd grounded out.

The Redmen tied the game in the top of the fifth when Landon Smith singled, Jake Blagg sacrificed the runner to second and a throwing error allowed Smith to score.

Green regained the lead with two runs in the bottom of the inning.

Maynard singled and Tayte Carver had an RBI double. Trevor Carver followed with an RBI single.

Rock Hill then scored two unearned runs to tie the game in the seventh.

Trae Crabtree walked to start the seventh. Two outs later, Heath Carpenter doubled to score a run and then he scored the tying run on a dropped fly ball.

In the ninth, Crabtree singled, Smith put down a sacrifice and Blagg had an RBI single. An out later, Shawn McFann doubled home Blagg and Brandon Schob singled in the final run.

Blagg was 2-4 and Lewis 2-5 for the Redmen (2-0) while Tayte Carver was 3-4, Trevor Carver 2-4 with four RBIs and Karshner 2-5 for Green (0-2).
