The theme of this week’s toddler time Tuesday morning at the Ironton Briggs Library was Valentine’s Day, as community children listened to stories, participated in activities and made crafts centered around the holiday.

As each child walked in, librarian assistant Jan Gullett, who conducts the sessions, gave each one a heart nametag before they gathered in the front of the room for a few songs and dances. Next the children listened to Gullett read “Sweet Hearts,” “The Perfect Hug” and “Do Crocs Kiss?” before participating in various activities and finally wrapping up the day with coloring a picture of a Valentine’s Day bear and making a Valentine’s bookwork bookmark.

“Toddler time is geared for children 18 months-three years, but that varies a little bit,” Gullet said. “Our goal is to introduce kids to the library, books and reading at a young age. We do a lot of songs, rhymes, fingerplays and encourage early literacy. It’s also a good time for the kids to socialize with one another.”

Gullet said she’s been in charge of toddler time for the past eight years, although the program has been at the library for many years.

Toddler time is offered at the Ironton Briggs Library every Tuesday at 11 a.m.
