COAL GROVE — This time the Coal Grove Lady Hornets did what they can do.

Everyone seemed to do their job well as the Lady Hornets routed the Portsmouth Lady Trojans 64-33 on Thursday in an Ohio Valley Conference game.

Kaylee Beals scored a game-high 21 points to lead the Lady Hornets (4-10, 2-7). Emily Compliment added 13 points while Lauren Crum had 9 points.

Jasmine Eley led Portsmouth with 12 points — 11 in the first half.

“Kaylee Beals had a great game scoring which is what she is capable of doing,” said Coal Grove coach Rick Roach. “Emily Compliment draws a lot of attention which allows others to get to the basket.

“(Kasey) Murphy was in some foul trouble which allowed the girls on the bench to give some quality minutes. Amaya Waulk is very determined and finds her way to the low block and Lauren Crumb was able to get some looks at the basket which will help a lot when other are not scoring.”

Beals scored 6 points in the first quarter as Coal Grove took a 15-8 first quarter lead.

The Lady Hornets made 7-of-11 from the foul line as they opened up a 34-19 halftime lead.

The defense held Portsmouth to 4 points in the third quarter while Beals scored 7 points and Waulk added 5 points and it was 51-23.

The Lady Hornets were 7-of-11 at the line in the fourth quarter as they continued to build on their lead.
