FRANKLIN FURNACE — The young St. Joseph Flyers learned another lesson: don’t let up.

The Flyers took a 9-point lead after three quarters, then watched as Green stormed back in the fourth quarter to post a 71-60 win on Saturday.

The Bobcats erased the deficit by outscoring the Flyers 27-7 in the final quarter.

“We didn’t handle their pressure (in the fourth quarter) and they just kept attacking. Their kids never quit,” said Flyers’ coach Kevin Sheridan.

Tyler Ward scored a career-high 20 points to lead the Flyers while Isaac Whaley had 12 points.

“Tyler Ward played his best game of the year. He scored, rebounded and defended,” said Sheridan.

Tanner Kimbler and Tayte Carver scored 21 points each and Hunter Lewis added 17 points to lead Green.

The Flyers (2-6) took a 15-9 first quarter lead as five different players scored.

Green cut the deficit to 27-25 at the half as Lewis scored 7 points in the second quarter.

St. Joseph erupted for 26 points in the third quarter as Ward scored 12 points and Whaley had 8 points and the Flyers extended the lead to 53-44.

But then Green turned the game in the fourth quarter as Carver scored 9 points and the Bobcats converted 11-of-15 free throws.

Kimbler — who had 9 points in the third quarter — went 6-of-6 at the foul line in the fourth quarter.

The Flyers host Portsmouth Clay on Tuesday.
