COAL GROVE — It’s all about team for the Coal Grove Hornets.

The Hornets put eight players in the scoring column and three in double figures as they downed the St. Joseph Flyers 66-47 on Tuesday.

Daniel Rutherford scored 19 points to lead the Hornets’ offense. Cole Gannon had 13 points including three 3-pointers while Sam Angelo added 12 points.

Judge Williams scored 13 points and Chase Walters had 12 to lead the Flyers.

Gannon hit a pair of 3-pointer in the first quarter as Coal Grove took a 15-9 lead.

Rutherford scored 8 points, Gannon had 5 points and Chase McKnight was 4-for-4 at the foul line as the Hornets extended their lead to 37-24 at the half.

Five different players scored for the Flyers including Peyton Adkins and Walters with 4 points each.

The Hornets (3-4) used a balance offense in the third quarter as they increased their lead to 52-34.

Dalton Miller, Sam Angelo and Rutherford all had 4 points in the quarter. Williams had 4 points for the Flyers (2-6).

Williams drained a pair of 3-pointers in the fourth quarter as the Flyers continued to battle but six different Hornets scored as they outscored the Flyers 14-13.

On Saturday, St. Joseph visits Green while Coal Grove travels to Portsmouth Notre Dame.
