Ironton man jailed after standoff

An Ironton man is behind bars following a standoff with police.

The Ironton Police Department attempted to arrest Dean Allen Cooper, 25, who had a felony warrant for fleeing and eluding a police officer and resisting arrest, according to a release from the IPD. Cooper was also wanted in Kentucky for a probation violation.

According to the release, officers attempted to serve the warrant on Cooper at about 9 p.m. Wednesday at 1210 McGovney Street. Cooper then allegedly barricaded himself in a bedroom of the house and threatened to kill himself.

The IPD special response team made entry into the house and began negotiations with Cooper, according to the release. About an hour and half later, Cooper surrendered to police and was taken to the Lawrence County Jail. Several weapons were found in the bedroom, according to the release.
