Ironton In Bloom recently honored McCauley Furniture and Carpet with its Business of the Month award.

McCauley Furniture was founded in 1888 by Frank L. McCauley. The original store was located on North Second Street below Railroad Street. Later, a new store was built at the corner of Second and Center streets, which is the present location.

McCauley operated the store until 1943, then he sold the business to Fred Waginger, who had been an employee since 1918.

In 1949, a fire destroyed the four floors of the original building. Fred Waginger rebuilt the store, the present structure.

Waginger died in 1963 leaving his widow Gladys Waginger the owner until 1964. At that time she turned the operation over to her son Bill Waginger and her daughter Helen W. Weber. At the death of Bill, Helen became owner of McCauley’s.

McCauley Furniture is one of the oldest retail establishments in the Tri-State. Only two families have owned the business, which is currently owned by Fred, Greg and Beth Weber.
