SOUTH POINT—At the upcoming Stuff the Bus event at the South Point Wal-Mart, the community can donate school supplies to Lawrence County students.
“There’s just a recognition that schools are often under resourced,” said Andrea Roy, United Way of the River Cities director of community impact. “I don’t think anything we’ve ever collected has gone to waste.”
Volunteers at the event, sponsored by Wal-Mart and United Way, will provide shoppers with a list of needed school supplies and then shoppers can place the items on a bus that will transport items to a local school for distribution throughout the county.
“The Lawrence County list is really your traditional school supplies (list),” said Roy.
If locals want to donate supplies that they already have on hand, they are welcome to bring them to the event.
“Everyone has a part,” said Roy. “I hope a lot of people will come out and be generous.”
Roy sees the event as a way to meet the students’ needs.
“It’s hard to be successful if you don’t have the tools,” said Roy. “The students really are our future.”
The Stuff the Bus event is Saturday from 10 a.m.-1 p.m.
