DUNNELLON, Fla. — Watching their grandson play college baseball is going to take some travel plans.
Mark and Linda Dewitz of Ironton have quite a long drive if they plan to watch their grandson Bo Dewitz play college baseball at Webber International University in Babson Park, Fla.
Bo Dewitz was a pitcher and catcher for the Dunnellon Tigers where he was a four-year starter. He recently signed with Webber International, an NAIA school and member of the Sun Conference.
The younger Dewitz — whose father Mark Dewitz II graduated from Ironton and was a former city employee — was the player/pitcher of the year for District 5A-5 as a junior.
A Star-Banner all-county player as a junior and senior, Dewitz posted three wins with a 2.28 earned run average with 33 strikeouts as he spent most of his time behind the plate.
In fact, he said his most memorable moment was hitting a walk-off home run on senior night during his freshman season.
However, Dewitz is expected to pitch for WIU.
At Dunnellon, Dewitz had a 3.67 grade point average. He plans to major in criminal justice and eventually work for the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.
Dewitz was also a two-way football player during his first three years at Dunnellon.
