A Michigan man is in the Lawrence County jail following his arrest on Friday for drug trafficking.
Charles Shelby, 27, of Keego Harbour, Michigan, faces drug trafficking charges in the first degree. Members of the sheriff’s office, drug and major crimes task force and Ironton Police Department made the arrest after finding 171 Oxycodone tablets with a street value of between $7,000 and $8,000, an amount of marijuana and $2,651 in cash, according to sheriff’s office detective Aaron Bollinger.
“Through our investigation we have been aware of his coming and going frequently,” Bollinger said. “However this was our initial contact with this subject.”
The arrest, made at the Holiday Inn Express and Suites, was a first-degree felony because it happened within 1,000 feet of a school — St. Lawrence School.
Shelby will be arraigned in Ironton Municipal Court this afternoon before Judge O. Clark Collins.
