PORTSMOUTH — Shawnee State University is set to play host to one of the greatest musicals in theater history as “Anything Goes” will be played at the Vern Riffe Center for the Arts at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 12.
In the production of “Anything Goes,” young Wall Street broker Billy Crocker becomes infatuated by a glance of heiress Hope Harcourt boarding the ship. Billy then proceeds to stow away on an ocean liner with the help of some gangsters who give him the passport and ticket of their leader, “Snake Eyes” Johnson, who is considered to be Public Enemy No. 1. While Billy tries to woo Hope, he has to constantly assume different disguises to elude the authorities who think he is “Snake Eyes.”
Overall, the production won three 2011 Tony Awards, including Best Musical Revival and Choreography and contains some of musical theatre’s most memorable standards, including “I Get A Kick Out Of You,” “You’re the Top,” “Friendship,” and “It’s De-Lovely,” in addition to its namesake, “Anything Goes.”
Tickets for lower tier seating will be $55 for a regular ticket, $50 for seniors, $42 for students, and $20 for children under the age of 12. Upper tier prices will be discounted, and special discounts for families and groups are also being offered.
