SCIOTOVILLE — Good things happen when you shoot the basketball well.

The Symmes Valley Lady Vikings shot a season-high 40 percent and grabbed 43 rebounds as a team as they rolled past the Sciotoville East Lady Tartans 69-21 on Monday in an Southern Ohio Conference game.

“I’m happy we shot well and that we rebounded well. And it was nice to get a lot of kids some playing time,” said Lady Vikings’ coach Brandon Walker.

Maddie Scott scored 14 points and Elly Fulks had 13 points to lead the Lady Vikings (3-9, 2-5). Jensyn Shepherd grabbed 9 rebounds and Kaitlyn Payne had 7 rebounds and 4 assists while Breanna Brumfield added 8 points, 5 steals and 3 assists, and Meranda Hayes got 8 points.

“Fulks played pretty consistent. Maddie Scott is a freshman and she stepped up and did a nice job. Shepherd is another freshman who played well and (Shaylah) Tibbs is a freshman and she had six points,” said Walker.

Scott had 6 points and Fulks scored 5 as the Lady Vikings raced to a 22-6 first quarter lead.

Brumfield drained a 3-pointer and scored 6 points in the second quarter while Scott had 8 points and the Lady Vikings opened up a 42-15 halftime cushion.

Hayes had 6 of her points in the third quarter and Fulks scored 5 more including a trey as Symmes Valley stretched the lead to 61-19.

Shay Brown scored 16 points to pace East.

Symmes Valley hosts Portsmouth Clay on Thursday.
