An early morning altercation on Saturday has left one man dead and another in an area hospital.
Det. Joe Ross of the Ironton Police Department said officers and Lawrence County EMS responded to a call around 3:30 a.m. from a distraught female who reported a stabbing at 717 ½ Ashtabula St. Upon arrival, Ross said, it was determined a male subject inside the residence was deceased.
At approximately 3:44 a.m. 911 received a report that a male subject with a gunshot wound to his upper torso was at a residence on the 2800 block of South Ninth Street asking for help.
The man who was shot is currently in guarded custody at an area hospital.
“We are still early in the initial investigation,” Ross said. “Details will be forthcoming.”
Agencies assisting the IPD were the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation, the Lawrence County Prosecutor’s Office, the Coal Grove Police Department and the Ohio State Patrol.
