Schools, groups plan special events

Woodland ceremony is 11 a.m. Tuesday
Many schools as well as other groups have planned special events to show their respect for local veterans on Veterans Day.
Ironton High School will have an assembly at 9 a.m. Tuesday. Veterans are invited to come to the assembly. Kristen Kavenaugh, 1998 graduate of Ironton High School, as well as a graduate of the Naval Academy, will be the guest speaker. Refreshments will be available.
South Point High School is inviting all veterans to an assembly at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday Mark Hopper and Shane Brown will be the guest speakers. The assembly will feature music from the school choir and lunch will be provided.
Symmes Valley Elementary School will have an assembly at 11 a.m. Tuesday. All are invited to attend. Dinner for the veterans will follow the assembly.
A ceremony will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Soldier’s Plot of Woodland Cemetery. The VFW Post 8850 Honor Guard will post their colors. Local student Demi Sands will sing the national anthem as well as another patriotic song. Pastor Chad Pemberton will lead the prayer and member of the post, Rodney McFarland, will be the guest speaker. All are invited.
Wyngate at RiversEdge in Proctorville is having a flag-raising ceremony at 1 p.m. Tuesday. Special guests include the Chesapeake High School Choir, the American Legion Post 16 and the Veteran Honor Guard.
Fairland West Elementary School will have a program at 9 a.m. The Fairland West Show Choir will perform patriotic songs and refreshments will be available to all guests by members of the Fairland Parent Teacher Organization and the Fairland West cooks.
