Joseph Newsom

Joseph Nelson Newsom, 76, of Franklin Furnace, died Wednesday, Sept. 3, 2014, at Southern Ohio Medical Center. He was born Oct. 17, 1937, in Camden, Tenn., to the late Edward Gordon Newsom and Frances Ocelia Sayles Newsom. He was a Korean War veteran in the U.S. Air Force and was formerly employed at Martin Marietta.

He is survived by his wife, Betty Barcus Newsom, whom he married Feb. 20, 1960, in Columbus. Also surviving are two daughters, Wendy Diane (Chris) Payton, and Cindy Jo Newsom; and three brothers, Louie Swift, Benny Swift and John Newsom.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Jerry Newsom.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Harrison-Pyles Funeral Home with pastor Ronnie Blevins officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Friends may call at the funeral home from 6-8 p.m. Friday and one hour before the service on Saturday.

 

 

Thomas Wilson

Thomas Lee “Tommy” Wilson, 49, of Ironton, changed addresses and went to be with his Lord Tuesday, Sept. 1, 2014, at Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital. The Lawrence County native was born Feb. 25, 1965, a son of the late Ernest William and Marie Mulkey Wilson.

Tommy was a 1982 graduate of Rock Hill High School and attended the City Mission Church in Ironton. He enjoyed fishing, watching TV and was an Elvis fan.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, James Orville Wilson; and a great-nephew, Josh Duncan.

He is survived by three brothers, Frank Wilson and Darryl Wilson, both of Ironton, and David (Patty) Wilson, of Pedro; three sisters, Kay (Allen) Miller, Myrtle (Tim) Stapleton, and Donna (Randy) Clark, all of Ironton; a special niece, Angie Fraley; and several other nieces, nephews, family and friends

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday at Phillips Funeral Home with the Rev. Jeff Cremeans and the Rev. Leon Dalton officiating. Louis Johnson

Louis Johnson, 71, of South Point, went home to be with the Lord, Monday, Sept. 1, 2014, at his residence surrounded by family. Louis was born Feb. 2, 1943, in Ironton, a son of the late Ulysses Charles and Goldie Brown Johnson.

He was an electrician with Special Metals for 50 years in Huntington, W.Va., and a member of Solida Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Bobby Gene Johnson. Louis is survived by his wife, Kay Whitt Johnson; his children, Barbara Ann Lindsey, James Arthur Johnson, Steven Glenn (Tammy) Johnson, Cynthia Kay Beckett, and Katherine Renee Johnson; his brother, Ronald Johnson; his sister, Ellen Stevens; 10 grandchildren, Nikki, Colton, Caleb, Shane, Anthony, Analicia, Chad, Erica, Samantha and Tori; one great-granddaughter, Chloe Faith; a nephew who was loved like a son, Daniel Ray (Brynn) Carmen; and several loving nieces and nephews.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Friday at Schneider-Griffin Funeral Home with pastor Aaron Childers officiating. Burial will follow in Highland Memorial Gardens in South Point. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. today at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Solida Baptist Church. Mary Cordle

Mary Alice “Muzz” Cordle, 90, of Flatwoods, Ky., died Tuesday, Sept. 2, 2014, at King’s Daughters Medical Center. Funeral will be 1 p.m. Friday at King’s Way Church in Ashland, Ky., officiated by her grandson, minister Jason Banks. Burial will be at Short White Oak Cemetery in Flatwoods. Virgie Burnett

Clinton Faith

Clinton K. Faith, 67 of South Point, died Tuesday, Sept. 2, 2014, at King’s Daughters Medical Center in Ashland, Ky. He is survived by his wife, Louise F. Faith. There will be no services. Ruth McMackin

Ruth A. McMackin, 92, died Aug. 31, 2014, at St. Joseph Hospital East in Lexington, Ky. The Ironton native was born Oct. 10, 1921, the daughter of the late George J. and Matilda Walker Monnig.

She was an Ironton St. Joseph Catholic High School graduate and retired secretary of Ironton St. Joseph Catholic High School. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Ironton. She was preceded by her husband, John McMackin; one daughter, Barbara McMackin; and one grandson, Rodd McMackin, to whom she was especially devoted. Also preceding her was one sister, Anna Marie Laber; and two brothers, Wilfred and Francis Monnig. Survivors include one son and daughter in law, Ron and Marta McMackin, of Lexington, Ky.; two grandsons, Ron McMackin, of Lexington, Ky., and Rick (Jennifer) McMackin, of Columbia, S.C.; one great-grandson, Michael McMackin, of Lexington, Ky.; one sister, Rita Haas, of Ironton; and several nieces and nephews.

Mass of Christian Burial will be noon Friday at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Father David Huffman officiating. Visitation will be from 10-11:30 a.m. Friday at O’Keefe-Baker Funeral Home. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Donations are requested to the Ironton Catholic schools in lieu of flowers.

 

 

Timothy Shoemaker

Timothy Vernon Shoemaker, 42, of Proctorville, died Tuesday, Sept. 2, 2014, at St. Mary’s Medical Center in Huntington, W.Va. Arrangements are pending at Hall Funeral Home and Crematory in Proctorville.

 

 

Kristi Bradshaw

Kristi Lou Bradshaw, 43, died Aug. 28, 2014, at Southern Ohio Medical Center. Private services were conducted at the convenience of the family at Memorial Burial Park. Arrangements were under the direction of Harrison Pyles Funeral Home.
