MINFORD — The South Point Pointers have played different styles this season and won. They faced a new style Thursday with the same results.

The Pointers’ soccer team remained unbeaten with a hard-fought 4-3 win over the previously unbeaten Minford Falcons.

“Minford is a good team. It was a very, very physical game. There were five yellow cards. There were a lot of PKs (penalty kicks),” said Pointers’ coach Zane Joy.

The Pointers (4-0) scored first on a penalty kick by Jordan Overstreet and took a 2-0 lead on a goal by Matt Krivan with an assist from Micah Harris.

Minford answered with a penalty kick by Eli Reffit but Harris scored on a penalty kick for the Pointers.

Grant Piguet’s goal off an assist by Jeremy Furhman got Minford within 3-2 but Trey Kearns put the Pointers ahead 4-2 at the half with a goal off an assist by Gage Stephens.

Minford had the only goal of the second half when Piguet scored unassisted.

Ponters’ goalie Brady Rickard had nine saves while Minford’s Dakota McGraw had six saves.

The Pointers host New Boston at 7 p.m. on Tuesday.
