Earl Nance

Earl “Rusty” Nance, 85, went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Saturday, Aug. 23, 2014, at Community Hospice Care Center, Ashland. Ky.

Rusty was a lifelong resident of Coal Grove and a member of Zoar Baptist Church where he was a trustee. He attended Dawson-Bryant Schools in Coal Grove.

Rusty began working at an early age at his parents’ store Nance’s Grocery in Coal Grove. He was a retiree of Alpha Portland Cement, Dayton Malleable and Dawson Bryant Schools. He also enjoyed portraying Santa Claus at JC Penney’s Toyland in Ironton for many years.

Rusty is survived by his wife, Catherine Tate Nance whom he married Dec. 6, 1947, daughters and sons-in-law, Joyce and Jack Harmon, of Georgetown, Ky. and Melinda and Steve Mays, of Coal Grove. He also leaves behind a granddaughter, Kelly Harmon Helm, of Lexington, Ky.; stepgrandson, Steven Mays, of Coal Grove and great granddaughters Natalie and Brenna Helm, of Lexington; sister Linda Suitor and sister-in-law Diana Nance, both of Coal Grove.

Rusty was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Pansy Nance, sisters Juanita Willis and Adrian Morgan, an infant sister Arvella Nance and a brother Larry “Battery” Nance.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Tracy Brammer-Monroe Funeral Home with the Rev. Jim Beals officiating. Burial will follow in Woodland Cemetery. Friends may call Tuesday 11 a.m. until time of the service at the funeral home. Veva Pratt

Oct. 15, 1927 — Aug. 23, 2014

Veva Faye Pratt, 86, of Ironton, passed away Saturday Aug. 23, 2014, at Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland, Ky. The Lawrence County native was born Oct. 15, 1927, the daughter of the late Edward and Veva Romans Walters. Ms. Pratt was a beautician for most of her life. She was a resident of Jo-Lin Health Care Center where she had many loving caretakers.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Ron Chaffins, of Kitts Hill; daughter, Connie Smith, of Ironton; and son and daughter-in-law, John and Lana Pratt, of Warsaw, Ind.; 10 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Virginia Willis, of South Point; two nieces; and one great niece.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two great-grandchildren; sisters, Kathleen Mays and Betty Henry; twin sister, Neva Mae; brothers, Lawrence, Chester and Raymond Walters; four nephews; and a great-niece.

Mabel Cooper

Mabel Ann Cooper, 90, of St. Albans, W.Va., died Friday Aug. 22, 2014, at Teays Valley Center in Hurricane, W.Va. Funeral service will be conducted at noon Tuesday at Hall Funeral Home and Crematory in Proctorville. Burial will follow in Miller Memorial Gardens. Jennings King Jr.

Jennings King Jr., 74, of Huntington, W.Va., died Saturday, Aug. 23, 2014, at Hospice House of Huntington. He is survived by his wife, Sally King. Arrangements are pending at Hall Funeral Home.
