Health fair promotes resources for illness

SOUTH POINT — The South Point Community Center served as both a place of celebration and a place of education on Saturday.
That’s because The Cause Inc. used the center as a base of operations for a health and awareness fair that was designed to help promote the resources available for those dealing with illness or disease.
“We want to make sure people know all of the things that are out there for them,” Stacy Murrary-Medcalf, founder of the Cause Inc., said. “A lot of times people don’t know all of the help that is available. They feel alone, but they don’t have to.”
Murrary-Medcalf should know. She had her own battle with breast cancer and often struggled to find the help she needed.
“I honestly wasn’t aware of the resources,” Murrary-Medcalf said. “I didn’t discover most of them until I was already declared cancer free by my doctors.”
That day was 10 years ago, and that is where the celebration part of Saturday came in.
“It is a celebration,” she said. “I was blessed to be able to overcome cancer. But, what we do at The Cause Inc. isn’t just about cancer, it’s about all diseases. It’s about helping in anyway we can through the resources we have and we promote.”
