MILLER — In the spring Habitat for Humanity’s Huntington, W.Va., agency raised walls on its first home in Lawrence County.
On Monday the organization held a ribbon cutting ceremony at the home in Miller and gave the family its first look inside during the dedication.
“We hope that this is the beginning of a great partnership between Habitat and Lawrence County,” David Michael, Huntington Area HFH executive director and CEO, said. “I’m a native of Lawrence County so I’m very proud to be able to branch out and help fellow Lawrence Countians.”
For Linda Dennison being handed the keys to her new home was a chance to unlock a new start for her and her family.
“This is a new beginning,” Dennison said. “I think God has put Habitat in my life for a reason and I’m just so thankful for a home that I know will be warm in the winter and will be able to get clean water when I want a drink.”
Dennison, who will be moving into the house with her son Preston Linville II, has been battling cancer and heart disease she said she feared she might not live to see the house.
“I didn’t know if I was going to make it,” she said. “I was really afraid that I would never get to see this house finished. But, here I am, and I’m not going anywhere. I’m going to stay right here in this home until I can’t no more.”
