SOUTH POINT —South Point Pointers’ senior running back and tight end Mason White got a special invitation. It was an offer he couldn’t refuse.
Various top players throughout the country are invited to compete at various Super Combines through coaches’ nominations and players who excel at the combines are selected to play in one of four regional Blue-Grey National All-American Super Combines.
White was one of 150 players invited to compete at the June 20-21 Northeast Super Combine held in Canton at Fawcett Stadium. Other sites are Tampa, Fla., Arlington, Texas, and San Mateo, Calif.
Some of the players at the regional Super Combine Blue-Grey Bowls will be selected to lay in one of two Blue-Grey All-American Bowls schedule for Dec. 14 at AT&T Stadium — home of the Dallas Cowboys — and Jan. 10, 2015, at Raymond James Stadium — home of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Last year, 630 prospects participated in the Super Combines and more than 475 went on to sign a college football scholarship.
The 6-foot-1, 205-pound White was clocked at 4.7-seconds in the 40-yard dash.
In the other four events, White had an 8-foot, 6-inch standing broad jump and a 33-inch vertical leap. His shuttle time was 4.6 seconds. In the bench press, White had 19 repetitions of 185 pounds.
