Passing a greased watermelon across an Olympic-size pool may be more difficult than it sounds.
To find out exactly how difficult one would have to ask the nearly 30 kids who participated in “Kids’ Fun Day” at Sta-Tan Pool in Ironton on Saturday.
“We try to do things like this every now and then,” Kathy Cunningham, owner, said. “We were supposed to have it on the Fourth of July but the turnout was so low we decided to have it today.”
Aside from passing the greased watermelon, Cunningham said kids participated in sack races, swim races, as well as talent and diving contests.
“The weather has been so unpredictable this summer,” Cunningham said. “When it’s been warm it’s been storming and when it’s been clear it’s been unseasonably cool. If we have an event and don’t have enough people show up we will put it off until a day when there is enough people here to make it fun.”
Sta-Tan closes after Labor Day and has several events planned for the remainder of its season. This past Saturday’s event was in conjunction with guest day, where members could bring a guest to the pool.
Along with the Olympic-size pool Sta-Tan offers a shelter for picnics and parties, concessions, locker rooms, spacious lawn areas, a children’s pool, hosts special events, plays popular music, has diving boards, tennis, basketball and volleyball courts.
