Homegrown produce is becoming more prevalent as a full venue of farmers and vendors are taking advantage of the Ironton Farmers Market.

This Saturday Ironton in Bloom ­— as the group does the second Saturday of each month — will serve free hot dogs and watermelon.

“Everyone is invited to come and enjoy the friendly atmosphere,” Sam Heighton, market manager, said. “This past Saturday we had a really good three-day Independence Day market topped off with the music from County Road 6.”

Aside from fresh produce the market features vendors offering home-baked goods, homemade jellies and jams, homemade candy and homemade personal products. Craft vendors offering homemade jewelry, homemade ceramics and other homemade products are also at the market. Kettle corn is also available as well as ice cream and soda from 15-year-old Mason Slagle’s Cool-Spot tricycle.

The Ohio University Southern Art Collaborative on Saturday will again be at the market.

“This has been a big hit,” Heighton said. “Bring the kids and have a hot dog, a piece of watermelon and do your market shopping while your child paints a masterpiece.”

The Ironton Farmers Market is located on S. Second St. in downtown Ironton and is open 7 a.m.-3 p.m. Friday and Saturday. The market is a project of Ironton aLive and is sponsored by Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital.
