Adults important to youth sports

Youth sports in Lawrence County is an important aspect regardless of the league. That is certainly the case with the last B.J. Hannon, who was so very important to youth sports in Ironton.

B.J. dedicated much of his life to youth sports and helped develop players, but more importantly prepared kids for life. There are so many people throughout the region who dedicate themselves to the youth of their Little League. It’s important we all strive to have the same impact on kids’ lives BJ had — from Little League up to high school — and teach them the necessary skills both on and off the field.

I can say the same because I want the kids I coach to grow up and be good and productive members of society, not just ball players.

The level of success that many in our county have had with our youth cannot be matched, we can only hope to be half as successful.

I believe that it is important to first build character in kids and develop their athletic skills next.

Being able to keep today’s youth interested and involved is sometimes difficult, but it is important to allow them to grow and cultivate relationships that will be prove invaluable in their future.
