Students preparing for the Ohio University Southern graduation recognition ceremony attended a Grad Fair event in the Mains Rotunda on Tuesday.

Senior could get their cap, gown and tassel, information about the recognition ceremony, order a graduation DVD, and receive tips on student loan repayment and exit counseling. There was also help with resume creation and interviewing. A special workshop titled “Achieving Financial Independence” was offered at 1 p.m.

OUS Advising Coordinator Lisa Cantrell said of the 325 students receiving degrees at 7 p.m. at the graduate recognition program this Friday, only 150 will walk in the ceremony.

“Some students don’t walk for many different reasons,” Cantrell said. “Some are getting associate degrees and will wait and walk when they get their bachelor’s degree. Some are already out of town, some are receiving a second degree and walked the first time.”

Senior history major and student activities assistant Michelle Dotts said graduating after three years on campus will be bittersweet.

“I’m excited to graduate,” she said. “But I’m going to miss this place like crazy.”

Dotts plans to earn her master’s degree in history from either Marshall or the University of Kentucky.

Seniors could also join the alumni association and purchase alumni clothing, key chains and other items at the event.
