One easy win, one tough loss.
The St. Joseph Flyers downed the Green Bobcats 55-25 on Friday, then came back on Saturday and lost a hard-fought 68-58 decision to the Minford Falcons.
Wulf Goheen scored 13 points, Troy Scott had 11 points and Trey Young got 10 points to lead the Flyers past Green. Chris Lewis had 10 reobund while Goheen added 6 rebounds and 4 steals.
St. Joseph had only four turnovers, all in the second half.
“We played well and didn’t have a letdown after the Fairland game. In the past we’ve have problems with maintaining our focus,” said Flyers’ coach Jeremy Williams. “We did a good job of taking care of the ball.”
The Flyers jumped in front of Green 12-2 in the first quarter as Goheen and Lewis combine for 9 points.
Scott had 7 points and Goheen 6 more in the second quarter as the lead ballooned to 37-10 at the half.

Saturday in the Dr. Paulus Heart of Champions Classic, the Flyers battled the Falcons whose only loss this season was to Huntington Prep.
“We played hard and we battled, but I didn’t want any moral victory. I wanted to win and we had our opportunities. We just had a few bad bounces go against us,” said Williams.
“I was proud of the way Chris Lewis battled (Jared McCray). He was outweighed by 150 pounds and McCray is so strong.”
St. Joseph (5-5) used some long-range shooting to challenge the Falcons. The Flyers were 10-of-24 from the 3-point line with Hunter Pemberton hitting 6-of-11 shots for 18 points.
Goheen led the Flyers with 19 points including three shots from beyond the arc, Scott had 10 points and Lewis 8 rebounds.

Pemberton and Scott teamed up for 10 points in the third quarter as the Flyers cut the deficit to 3 points, but Gullion scored 7 points as Minford stayed ahead 52-45.
It was Pemberton and Lewis combining for 10 points in the fourth quarter and St. Joseph cut the deficit to 5 points, but Rowe scored 13 points and the Falcons were 7-of-9 from the foul line to escape with the win.
