The West Virginia Region 2 Workforce Investment Board has named Collins Career Center as the 2013 recipient of its Career Enhancement Award.
The award recognizes CCC for its effort in helping build a stronger workforce through education in the Region 2 area. Region 2 is made up of seven W.Va. counties including nearby Cabell and Wayne counties.
“About 20 percent of our enrollment comes from West Virginia,” said Jamie Chaffin, the director of post-secondary education at CCC. “It’s an honor to receive this award to mark the accomplishments that our staff has helped the students achieve.”
Chaffin says that CCC has a high job placement rate and this award is evidence of that. As CCC’s goal is to help its students find employment upon graduation.
“All the programs taken at the center lead directly to employment,” Chaffin said. “We have a 93 percent placement rate. When our students graduate they are going to go to work and that’s really what were about.”
The Workforce Investment Board was created during the Workforce Investment Act of 1998. Its goal is to help increase employment for the betterment of the country’s economy.
