The Workforce Development Resource Center will be offering free income tax preparation through the volunteer income tax assistant program.
The program’s goal is to help moderate and low-income individuals and families prepare for the upcoming tax season.
“Filing your taxes can be extremely stressful,” said Tricia Damron, community service coordinator for the WDRC. “We just want to help people get started and get a better understanding of the tax process.”
Those who qualify for the program will be able to meet with IRS-trained and certified volunteers to discuss their income tax situation, while also being able to fill out federal 1040 forms.
“Some of the lingo and forms can be confusing,” Damron said. “The assistance program should allow for people to get a better understanding of what everything means and what they need to do.”
The program will be offered at two locations, from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. in Ironton at the WDRC every Tuesday and Thursday. The Ohio University Proctorville campus from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. Mondays.
The WDRC will also offer the program from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. on select Saturdays. No appointment is necessary but those wanting to take part in the program are required to bring a photo ID, Social Security card, wage and earning statements for 2013 as well as Social Security statements.
