Judy Martin

Oct. 27, 1944-Dec. 5, 2013

Judy Gay Martin, 69, of Ironton, passed away Thursday, Dec. 5, 2013, at Community Hospices Care Center in Ashland, Ky. The Lawrence County native was born Oct. 27, 1944, to the late Emmitt, Jr. and Betty Alford White. She was the wife of William “Stan” Martin, whom she married May 22, 1964.

Mrs. Martin attended Dawson-Bryant Schools and was a homemaker. She enjoyed bingo and spending time with her grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Debra Martin; and two sisters, Sharon Sizemore and an infant sister.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by a daughter, Sandy (Wally) Nease of Catlettsburg, Ky.; a grandson, Billy (Katie) Cade of Catlettsburg; a great grandson, Logan Cade of Catlettsburg; a sister, Patty White of Ironton; brother-in-law, Ernie Sizemore of Kitts Hill; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Phillips Funeral Home with Rev. Leon Dalton officiating. Burial will follow in Highland Memorial Gardens and visitation will be Monday 12:00 – 1 p.m. prior to the service. To offer condolences please visit www.phillipsfuneralhome.net.

 

 

Dora Sharp

April 23, 1930-Dec. 7, 2013

Dora Juanita Sharp,83, of Ironton, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, Dec. 7, 2013 at Cabell Huntington Hospital in Huntington, W.Va. She was born April 23, 1930, the daughter of the late Rufus, Sr. and Lettie Duvall Johnson. She was the wife of Kenneth Sharp for 25 years.

Mrs. Sharp retired from Wilson’s Sporting Goods and was a homemaker. She was a member of Lawrence Furnace Church in Pedro. She loved and cherished her children and grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by a son, Danny Sharp; a grandson, Eric Sharp; three sisters, Bernice Stanley, Shirley Womack, and Pauline Harshbarger; and two brothers, Bob Johnson and Sherman Johnson; and a son-in-law, Charles Gore.

She is survived by three daughters and two sons-in-law, Patricia Gore of Kitts Hill, Ken and Peggy Jones of South Point, and Terry and Deborah Barker of Pedro; a daughter-in-law, Susan Sharp of Pedro; six grandchildren, Bill Scott Gore, Leslie Gore, Tracy Smith and her husband Chris, Tony Barker and his wife Kate, Bridgette Conley and her husband Wes, and Daniel Sharp and his wife Chassidy; 11 great grandchildren; three brothers, Garland Johnson and his wife Eloise, Rufus Johnson and his wife Susie, and Sam Johnson and his wife Linda.

Funeral services will be 3 p.m. today at the Tracy Brammer- Monroe Funeral Home with Pastor and brother of Dora, Garland Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in Lawrence Furnace Cemetery. Carl Adkins

Jan 11, 1943-Dec. 6, 2013

Carl Ray Adkins, 70, of Scottown, died Friday, Dec. 6, 2013, in St. Mary’s Medical Center. Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Monday at Schneider-Griffin Funeral Home with Rev. Eddie Salmons officiating. Burial will follow in Chesapeake Memorial Gardens. Carl was born Jan.11, 1943, in Wayne County, W.Va.,, a son of the late Paul and Gladys Lawson Adkins. He was an avid coon hunter and loved to hunt with all his buddies. He will forever be in our hearts and he will be missed. Carl is survived by his wife, Elsa Dixon Adkins; son, David Adkins; daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Mark Wood; grandchildren, Randy (Monica) Gobel, David Adkins, Jr., and Cameron Adkins; brothers, James B., Ray, and Asa Adkins; sister, Dorothy Daggett; and numerous nieces and nephews. Wanda Davis

Wanda Louise Davis, 86, of South Point, died Thursday, Dec. 5, 2013, at Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House of Huntington, W.Va. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 21, 2013, at Slack and Wallace Funeral Home, South Point with Pastor Jerry Matt officiating. Burial will follow at Highland Memorial Gardens, South Point. Visitation is from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the funeral home on Saturday, Dec. 21. Oakley Malone

March 19, 1921- Dec. 5, 2013

Oakley Malone, 92, of Bowling Green, passed away Thursday, Dec. 5, 2013, at Wood County Hospital in Bowling Green. The Lawrence County native was born March 19, 1921, the son of the late Roy and Ella Phillips Malone.

Oakley attended Decatur Schools. He served as a proud veteran in the U.S. Army during W.W. II in the Pacific Theater. He was retired as a machinist from Collins Mining Company after 37 years of service.

After retiring he moved to Bradner, where his hobby was woodworking. His specialty was making children’s rockers. He was a member of Decatur Missionary Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Stacy, Harold, Clifford and Orville Malone; three sisters, Goldie Taylor, Myrtle Malone and Pearl Malone; a son: Ralph Salyers; and a son-in-law, Ronald DePriest.

Oakley is survived by his companion of 32 years, Mabel Layman and her son Fred Layman of Bowling Green; his daughter and son-in-law, Susie and James (Buddy) of Pedro; son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Patricia Salyers of Orange, Va.; brother, Kenneth Malone of Pedro; four grandchildren, Steve (Valerie) DePriest of Pedro, Dale (Gina) DePriest of Kitts Hill, Debbie (Gene) Adams of Pedro and Dean (Cindy) DePriest of Pedro; six great grandchildren; five great-great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Phillips Funeral Home with Rev. Rock Massie officiating. Burial will follow in Macedonia Cemetery with military graveside rites by the VFW Post 8850.
