The Kiwanis Club of East Greenup County, Ky., would like to extend a heartfelt “thank you” to the 24 sponsors, 226 runners, and the dozens of other local businesses and community volunteers who helped make the 36th annual Run By The River a success.
The 5K and 10K runs and walks will enable the club to carry out a host of service projects to better the local community. Among those projects are annual scholarships for Key Club seniors at Russell, Raceland-Worthington and Greenup high schools, contributions to those schools’ family resource centers and food baskets for needy families at Thanksgiving.
Run By The River profits also help the club support Builders Clubs at Russell and Wurtland Middle Schools, a Terrific Kids program at Wurtland Elementary School, Shop With A Cop, the library’s summer reading program and more.
The following businesses and individuals were our sponsors this year: Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital, Ashland-Bellefonte Cardiology (Dr. Charles Rhodes), AAA, McDonald’s, General Heating and Air Conditioning, McKinney Tire Warehouse, Kentucky Farmers Bank, Carman Funeral Home, Bob Clyse Chevrolet-Buick-GMC, Tri-State Enterprise, Kim Wales Limer and Steve Limer, First & People’s Bank & Trust Co, Dr. James T. Brom, Giovanni’s Pizza, Stultz Pharmacy, Ashland Cycling Enthusiasts, People’s Bank, State Representative Tanya Pullin, Tres Hermanos Nunez Mexican Restaurant, Great Lakes Minerals, Home Federal, Fannin Automotive Center, Bailey Family Funeral Home and Granite, and Money Concepts Financial Planning Centre.
We also received invaluable assistance from LifeSong Church, the Russell and Worthington police departments, the Russell Fire Department and donations from Pennington’s Foodfair, Jordan Ice, Valvoline, Bridges Christian Church, Ashland Alliance, The Printing Express, Crabro Printing, and Greenup Litter Control. Coverage of the race provided by The Ironton Tribune was also a key ingredient in our success.
Next year’s race will be on Saturday, June 14, 2014 and will include new categories for civic and faith based groups, mother-daughter and father-son teams, and strollers.
