FRANKLIN FURNACE — Waste not, want not.
That seemed to be the motto for Green pitcher Caleb Johnson who threw a one-hitter as the Bobcats blanked the Portsmouth Clay Panthers 11-0 in five innings Monday in a Southern Ohio Conference game.
Johnson needed only 61 pitches over five innings. He struck out 11, walked one and the only hit was a first inning bloop single by Jacob Crosier.
“We got a very efficient outing out of Caleb Johnson. It was a very solid outing and we got some timely hits from Clay Applegate, Rob Applegate and Steven Blanton,” said Green coach Dan McDavid.
Clay Applegate and Rob Applegate each went 2-3. Clay had two RBIs and Rob three. Blanton was 1-2 with two RBIs.
Clay Applegate singled, stole second and scored on a pair of wild pitches in the first inning.
Green (5-5) took a 5-0 lead in the second.
Blanton walked, Mark Allen singled, Cody Coburn walked and Clay Applegate and Rob Applegate followed with two-run singles.
The Bobcats blew the game open with six runs in the fourth.
Allen walked, Clay Applegate reached on an error and Rob Applegate had an RBI double. Tyler Crace, Johnson and Matt Howard followed with RBI singles. Howard singled, the runners moved up on a passed ball and Blanton had a two-run base hit.
Trent Marcum’s RBI single capped the rally.
