BEAVER — As the temperature rose, so did the Green Bobcats’ hit total.

With their biggest hit output of the season, Green blanked the Eastern Eagles in six innings on Wednesday in a Southern Ohio Conference game.

Green (4-4, 2-2) had nine hits to back the five-hit pitching of Rob Applegate who struck out 10 and walked three.

“We had a good effort out of Robbie Applegate and we had good contribution up and down the lineup. As the weather heated up, so did our bats. We haven’t been hitting,” said Green coach Dan McDavid.

Trent Marcu was 2-3 and Clay Applegate 2-5 to lead the Bobcats’ offense.

Green took a 1-0 lead in the first and then erupted for seven runs in the fourth inning without the aid of a hit.

Eastern committed four errors in the inning including a three-base error to score three runs on a ball hit by Clay Applegate. Rob Applegate reached on a error for a run, Steven Blanton drove in a run with a ground out.

Clay Applegate had a two-out triple in the fifth and scored on a hit by Rob Applegate to make it 8-0. Tyler Crace had a two-run double that highlighted a three-run sixth inning.

Green hosts Portsmouth on Thursday.
