Lady Pointers can’t hold on in loss to RV

BIDWELL — Trading places.
The South Point Lady Pointers and River Valley Lady Raiders traded places offensively from one half to the next.
South Point put up points in the first half but struggled with two single digit quarters in the second half.
River Valley had three single digit quarters before erupting for 21 points in the fourth quarter and rallied to edge South Point 39-35 Thursday in an Ohio Valley Conference game.
Brett Justice scored 11 points to lead the Lady Pointers (7-10, 4-5).
Cady Gilmore scored 11 points and reached the 1,000-point career mark to lead River Valley (6-14, 3-6).
South Point jumped out to a 13-4 lead as Abbey Winkler, Haley Rawlins and Brianna Bacon each hit a 3-pointer.
The defense held River Valley to 5 points in the second quarter as South Point went up 22-9 at the half. Justice scored 5 points in the quarter.
Both teams struggled offensively in the third quarter as River Valley cut the deficit to 28-18.
The fourth quarter was a contrast in scoring as River Valley outscored the Lady Pointers 21-5.
Gilmore scored 9 of her 11 points including a pair of 3-pointers. Courtney Smith had 5 points as she and Shalin Comer each made a 3-pointer.
Justice made two field goals but the Lady Pointers converted only 3 of 10 from the foul line.
South Point won the first meeting 72-39 at home on Jan. 7.
The Lady Pointers play at Greenup County, Ky., at 6 p.m. Saturday.
