NEW BOSTON — Nancy Sinatra’s boots were made for walking. The Symmes Valley Vikings’ sneakers were made for kicking.

The Vikings’ offense kicked into gear on Tuesday as they routed the New Boston Tigers 85-58 in a Southern Ohio Conference I game.

“Things are starting to kick in, we just have to keep from turning the ball over,” said Vikings’ coach Donnie Saunders.

Things kicked in for Austin Baldwin who had a huge game for the Vikings with 24 points and 12 rebounds.

D.J. Miller had 10 points and 11 assists, Dylan Malone scored 18 points and Tyler Rowe had 16 points for Symmes Valley (5-4, 3-2).

Shane Buckley scored a game-high 31 points for New Boston (1-8, 0-5).

Baldwin scored 12 points in the first quarter to offset 11 points by Buckley as the Vikings raced to a 27-15 lead.

Malone had 8 points in the second quarter as Symmes Valley extended its lead to 47-26.

Each team scored 20 points in the third quarter — Buckley had 10 for the Tigers — and it was 67-46.

The Vikings continued to pull away in the fourth quarter as they coasted to the win.

“It was a good win, especially on the road. But we’ve got a tough stretch of games ahead of us,” said Saunders.
