PEDRO — The South Point Pointers know offense.

The Pointers had three players in double figures and used a big first half to key a 65-56 Ohio Valley Conference win over the Rock Hill Redmen on Friday.

“We did a good job offensively, but Rock Hill changed up their defenses well and we had trouble executing against them in the second half,” said South Point coach Chris Barnes.

Payne Meadows scored 18 points — 16 in the first half — and pulled down 11 rebounds to lead the Pointers (6-5, 1-2). Brandon Barnes had 15 points and 4 assists while John Johnson had 14 points, 13 rebounds and 5 assists.

South Point had just eight turnovers.

Rock Hill (2-7, 0-3) had four players in double figures. Jacob Falls scored 13, Joey Stidham 11 and 3 steals, and Austin Collins and Layden Delawder scored 10 each. Evan Morris had 12 rebounds and Collins had 7 assists.

“We missed too many easy shots, but give our kids credit. They could have laid down but they fought back,” said Rock Hill coach Dave Hopper.

South Point jumped out to a 22-13 first quarter lead and it was 46-29 at the half.

Falls scored 11 of Rock Hill’s points in the first half.

“We had a super first half but we weren’t being patient enough on offense in the second half,” said coach Barnes.

After South Point upped its lead to 19 points at the start of the second half, Rock Hill went on a 12-0 run to get within 7 points. The Redmen trailed just 52-47 after three quarters.

But the Pointers were able to extend the lead in the fourth quarter and employed their spread offense to run time off the clock and seal the win.
