Pointers, Chesy girls win soccer matches; SP golfers fall in duel

SOUTH POINT — Brothers Jesse and Michael Lien accounted for four goals as the South Point Pointers beat the Lincoln County Panthers 6-1 on Tuesday in a soccer match.

Jesse Lien scored the first two goals with assists from Justin Taylor and Trey Kearns. Michael Lien then scored two goals unassisted.

Liam Huff scored the next goal for the Pointers with an assist from Michael Lien. Kearns got the final goal unassisted.

Three South Point goalies — Alex Whitt, Brady Sloan and Michael Lien — registered two saves each.

The Pointers (3-1-1) hosts New Boston at 6 p.m. on Saturday.

HAMLIN, W.Va. — The Chesapeake Lady Panthers jumped out to a 5-0 first half lead and went on to beat the Lincoln County Lady Panthers 9-1 on Tuesday in a soccer match.

Alyssa Arthur and Jackie Nelson scored two goals each and Kierra Kerns had a goal on a penalty kick for the first half Chesapeake goals.

In the second half, Jordan Taylor, Carly Macfarland and Arthur all scored goals and Jillian Ellis added the fourth goal on a penalty kick.

Nelson, Kerns and Bailey Mills all had assists. Ellis had seven goalie saves.

Olivia Weaver scored the Lady Panthers’ goal.

Pointers drop duel

LAVALETTE, W.Va. — The Huntington Highlanders beat the South Point Pointers in a dual golf match on Monday at Sugarwood Golf Course.

Huntington had a 168 team total while the Pointers had a 207 team score.

Madison Riley shot a 47 to lead the Pointers. Austin Wellman shot a 51, Caleb Jones 53, Kyle Goodson 56 and Barbara Collins had a 60.

Thomas Frazier and Fisher Cross each shot a 41 to lead Huntington. Alec Atha and Todd Childers shot 43s, Andy Tao 44 and Stephen Holland had a 47.
