Southern Ohio is in dire need of good paying industrial jobs.  A private firm is pursuing financing to construct a highly efficient steel mill to produce slab steel to be used by a forging facility to be built to produce caps for nuclear power plants.

There is a ten year backlog for these caps.  The plant would also produce electricity using waste heat from the mill/forge.  We fear the absence of support for this venture by the Kasich Administration will dissuade the developer.

Why wouldn’t the Jobs Ohio group and the Governor actively support this venture?  Is it because others in the steel industry are afraid of the competition and have influenced their former associate, Governor Kasich?

Inquiring minds down here on the River would sure like to hear a sound argument for this lack of support.

Time is short as the German group which would build the forge plan to move it to India if arrangements can’t be completed by mid-May.

Today’s youth are same as they have always been

Today’s youth has gotten a reputation as spoiled and inconsiderate, Some cases the reputation is well deserved. I witnessed an event Wednesday, May 2 that could change opinions.

The Tri-State Jr. High Golf League held the year end event at Ironton Country Club.

The sportsmanship displayed was tremendous from Athletes participating and High School Golfers from Coal Grove and Chesapeake who volunteered to help with rules and score keeping. Ceredo-Kenova won the tournament and Derek Lemley was low medalist but the results were irrelevant.

I was most impressed watching as the youth progressed through their nine holes. There was disappointment on bad shots and joy in good shots but the sportsmanship was always there.

The youth of today are the same as they always were. They want attention, rules, and discipline.

As parents and educators we need to continue to do our job and supply these needs and watch our youth excel.
