An Ironton man arrested last month for felonious assault was arraigned Wednesday in Lawrence County Common Pleas Court.

Scott Jenkins, 30 of 603 N. Fifth St., Ironton, was arraigned on one count of felonious assault. He pleaded not guilty through his attorney, Scott Evans. Judge D. Scott Bowling scheduled a March 21 pretrial conference and allowed a $25,000 cash bond set in Ironton Municipal Court to continue.

Assistant Lawrence County Prosecutor Mack Anderson pointed out, however, that Jenkins is unlikely to need bond because he is in jail now serving a sentence imposed for other, unrelated charges levied in Ironton Municipal Court.

Jenkins was arrested in late February and charged with stabbing Douglas Markin, 58, of Raceland, Ky., during an incident at a home on North Fourth Street.

Also Wednesday, David A. Jackson, 31, of 315 Ridgeway St., Coal Grove, skipped most of the steps in the legal system and pleaded guilty at his arraignment to one count of theft.

He also admitted that by getting indicted on new charges, he violated his probation. Jackson told Bowling he was guilty of taking various pieces of metal from the Midcontinental Coal and Coke Company in early January.

Jackson will be sentenced next week. Charges are pending against an alleged accomplice, Jake Lee Dodson, 18, of 322 Ridgeway St., Coal Grove.

Robert Gorby, 57, of 58 Township Road 1057, Proctorville, was arraigned on one count of felony intimidation, one count of felony theft and one count of misdemeanor theft. He pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity through his attorney, Marty Stillpass. Bowling did not set bond and ordered a mental evaluation for Gorby.

According to information from the Lawrence County Prosecutor’s Office, Gorby is accused of taking $4,500 from Ohio River Bank in Proctorville. The misdemeanor theft charge stems from an alleged incident at the Walmart store in Burlington. Gorby was indicted on theft charge after allegedly menacing his probation officer.

According to a complaint filed against him, Gorby was on electronically monitored home confinement through Lawrence County Municipal Court and cut off his ankle bracelet. When probation officer Steven Holbrook went to Gorby’s house to investigate the matter, Gorby allegedly menaced and threatened Holbrook.

Trent S. Smoot, 33, of 122 Meadow Lane, South Point, was arraigned on two counts of two possession of drugs. He pleaded not guilty through his attorney, William Eachus. Bowling allowed bond set in Lawrence County Municipal Court to continue and set an own recognizance bond (OR) of $20,000.

Smoot must return to court March 28 for a pretrial conference.

Kayla Barry, 20, of 11287 County Road 1, Chesapeake, was arraigned on one count of theft. She pleaded not guilty through her attorney, David Reid Dillon.

Bowling set a $20,000 OR bond and ordered Barry to return to court March 21 for a pretrial conference.

Shayla Perkins, 20, of 3341 State Route 243, Ironton, admitted she violated her community control sanctions, also known as probation, by testing positive for drug use (oxycontin).

Bowling sentenced her to successfully complete an inpatient treatment program at Mended Reeds and perform 200 hours of community service.
