CHESAPEAKE — A father and son were taken to an area hospital late Friday night after a shooting at their home.

In a prepared statement, Lawrence County Sheriff Jeff Lawless said at approximately 11 p.m. Friday, the Lawrence County 911 Dispatch Center received a telephone call of a domestic dispute at 8308 County Road 15, Chesapeake.

Twenty minutes later, and prior to the deputies’ arrival, another call was placed to 911 advising that shots had been fired.

Upon arrival deputies found two men on the front porch with blood on them. Several windows were broken out of the house.

“Deputies discovered that the two subjects were a father and son and that they had gotten into an argument over a personal matter,” Lawless said in his statement. “One of the subjects obtained a small caliber handgun and began to fire shots. The father suffered two gunshot wounds, with one shot being in the upper thigh and the other shot being in the upper torso. The other subject (the son) had suffered a gunshot wound to the head.”

Both subjects were taken by Lawrence County EMS to the Cabell Huntington Hospital in Huntington, W.Va. As of press time, one of these subjects was listed in stable condition at the hospital and the other was listed in serious condition.

The names of these two subjects are being withheld pending the outcome of this ongoing investigation.

“We are at the very early stages in this investigation, we have to piece the case together from the information we were told and compare that to the evidence we find” said Sheriff Jeff Lawless. “This was an argument between a father and son that quickly turned tragic.”
