SCIOTOVILLE — A lack of emotion led to a lack of points for the St. Joseph Flyers.

Suffering from the effects of a last-second upset win on Tuesday, the Flyers were void of emotion as they lost 59-55 in overtime to the East Tartans on Saturday.

“We came out flat after a big win on Tuesday. We played decent defense the first half, but we didn’t hit any shots or play with any emotion,” said Flyers’ coach Jeremy Williams.

St. Joseph was only 23 of 64 from the field including a miserable 6 of 26 in the first half. The Flyers were 11 of 14 at the foul line. East made 22 of 35 attempts from the line as the Flyers (9-7) were whistled for 27 fouls and had three players foul out.

Justin Mahlmeister led St. Joseph with 30 points and 10 rebounds. Troy Scott had 12 points and Eli Lewis added 7 rebounds.

Justin Crager and Patrick Bias scored 26 points each for the Tartans.

East took a 14-13 first quarter lead as Mahlmeister and Ike Palmer combined for 9 points. The Flyers managed just 3 points in the second quarter and fell behind 22-16 at the break.

Crager scored 8 points as East pulled away to a 41-27 lead.

Mahlmeister heated up in the fourth quarter and scored 15 points including a 3-pointer at the buzzer to send the game into overtime.

Bias had 8 of East’s 10 points in overtime while Mahlmeister and Joseph Payton combined for the Flyers’ points.

The Tartans hit 17 of 28 foul shots in the second half while the Flyers were 3 of 5.

It was the third meeting of the season between the teams. The Flyers won 57-44 at the Ironton Classic and 50-39 at home.

St. Joseph hosts New Boston on Tuesday.
