COAL GROVE — Post defense is important against Portsmouth Notre Dame. Not having a post player to defend with is a problem.
The Coal Grove Lady Hornets were without post player Darrien Hankins and the Lady Titans’ Jen Arnzen scored 19 points to lead Notre Dame to a 47-33 win on Monday.
“Hankins was out sick and our jayvee post player was out sick, too,” said Lady Hornets’ coach Rick Roach. “Hankins works harder than anyone on the team. We feed off of it. With her out we didn’t play with any intensity.”
Notre Dame (15-2) led 20-17 at the half. Coal Grove was guilty of 14 turnovers in the second half and sent Arnzen to the foul line repeatedly as she made 11 of 14 foul shots.
“They showed up to play and we showed up to watch them play,” said Roach.
Ashley Adkins scored 12 points to lead the Lady Hornets (9-8).
Madi Phillips added 12 points for the Titans.
Coal Grove hosts Fairland on Thursday.
