SP girls turn back Raiders

BIDWELL — You’ve heard of “double or nothing,” but how about “triple or nothing?”

The South Point Lady Pointers and River Valley Lady Raiders combined for 19 3-point goals in the Lady Pointers 72-44 Ohio Valley Conference win on Monday.

South Point hit eight 3-pointers led by Erin Dillow who scored 18 points including four triples. Allison Mitchell topped the Lady Pointers with a game-high 21 points.

River Valley had 13 field goals for the game and 11 were from behind the arc. Cady Gilmore hit five bombs and scored 19 points, Beth Misner had 12 points on four 3-pointers while Shalin Comer and Alli Neville each hit a 3-pointer.

River Valley took an 18-13 first quarter lead as Miser hit three 3-pointers, Gilmore two and Comer one.

Mitchell scored 8 points to keep South Point close.

Abby Winkler, Brianna Whaley and Dillow all hit trifectas in the second quarter as South Point rallied to take a 30-29 halftime lead.

The Lady Pointer began to pull away in the third quarter as Dillow scored 8 points including a pair a triples and Brett Justice had 8 points to make it 51-40.

South Point blew the game open in the fourth quarter by outscoring River Valley 21-4. Mitchell scored 6 points and Winkler 5.

South Point (8-3, 4-0) hosts Fairland Thursday in a showdown for first place in the OVC.

River Valley fell to 2-9 and 0-4.
