Sports carols add extra joy to Christmas season celebration

Christmas is here!
Every year Christmas comes and family and friends get together and share the joys of what the birth of the Christ child brings to each of us.
And with those meetings comes gifts and songs of joy.
A lot of gifts are of the sporting variety and there’s nothing wrong with that. But there never seems to be any sporting songs to go with those gifts.
Ah, but there is now. Here are a few songs to help blend with your gifts.
I better apologize in advance and I guess I’ll be seeing Father Huffman or Father Purcell in confession very soon.
Deck The Lineman
(Tune: Deck the Halls)
Deck the lineman blocking well
Fa la la la la la la la la.
He did his job but you’re mad as hell
Fa la la la la la la la la.
Stomp on him as you walk away
Fa la la la la la la la la
Suspended now so you can’t play
Fa la la la la la la la la.
Didn’t see the tree before him.
Fa la la la la la la la la.
Crashed his car the facts are slim
Fa la la la la la la la la.
There’s defiance in Suh’s voice
Fa la la la la la la la la.
Doubt he’ll ever feel remorse
Fa la la la la la la la la.
It Came Upon A Thursday Clear
(Tune: It Came Upon A Midnight Clear)
It came upon a Thursday night
The decision he had reached.
LeBron said where he’d play this year
His talents would go to South Beach.
He stiffed the Cavs and all their fans
It caused riots in the streets
Dan Gilbert was so incensed
He vented in a public tweet.
Vilified across the league
LeBron was booed and scoffed.
But when the title was on the line
The fourth quarter he took off.
Good Coach Tressel
(Tune: Good King Wenceslas)
Good coach Tressel just spoke out
To start the bowl season.
He said he just found out the facts
The BCS believed him.
Pryor and friends did admit
To free ink and cash gifts
But they got to play the game
And that caused quite a rift.
Good coach Tressel just came clean
He knew more months ago.
A lawyer tipped him in emails
The feds were in the know.
Things just kept coming out
And on Memorial Day
Michigan fans all cheered.
Good Tressel went away.
Tebow The Bronco
(Tune: Frosty the Snowman)
Tebow the Bronco was a quarterback they say.
But the scouts all know that he couldn’t throw.
So he waited for his chance to play.
Tebow the Bronco became a fairy tale that day
He played like sin but his team would win
Now he wouldn’t go away.
There must have been some magic
When he ran onto the field
For when the game was on the line
The opponent’s fate was sealed.
Tebow the Bronco was the topic ev’ry day
On E-S-P-N it was all about him
So the viewers turned away.
Thumpetty thump thump
Thumpetty thump thump
Look at Tebow throw
Thumpetty thump thump
Thumpetty thump thump
Better stick to what you know.
Merry Christmas!
