Dr. Warren Morford

CHESAPEAKE —Dr. Warren N. Morford, M.D., 81, of Chesapeake, passed away Sunday, Dec. 18, 2011, at home.

He was born May 30, 1930, in Grantsville, W.Va., son of the late James Amyot Morford, M.D. and Margaret E. Stalnaker Morford.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one sister, Kathryn Ina Morford Kaiser; two brothers, James Earl (Mary Ellen) Morford and John William Morford; sister-in-law Frances Morford; and nephew, Jimmy Morford.

He is survived by his wife Vivian Willis Morford; three sons, Warren N. Morford, Jr. Esq. , Daniel Alan Morford and Michael Amyot Morford; one daughter, Jane Diane Morford, M.D.; eight grandchildren, Sgt. Robert Skomrock, Christopher (Heather) Skomrock, Dr. Whitney (Brad) Fulton, Warren Cory Morford, John Michol Morford, Jessica Kathleen Farley and Katlyn Paige Morford; special relatives and friends, Stewart Kaiser, Esq., Margaret and Tommy Day, Kellie Day and daughter, Morgan Elliott, Jeff and Kim Day and daughter Brianna, Kathryn Gainer and her daughter Kim, Beverly Morford and sons Lucas and Scott, Anne Blake, Alda and Allen Wagner and daughters Amber and Amanda, Vickie Kaiser, Franklin Mannon and Linda Crabtree.

Dr. Morford graduated from Grantsville, W.Va., High School, West Virginia University, University of Louisville School of Medicine, Louisville, Ky., Columbia University School of Hypnotherapy, New York, Intern, St. Joseph Infirmary, Louisville, Ky., and completed his residency at Memorial Hospital, Charleston, W.Va. Dr. Morford was a member of United Methodist Church, Grantsville, Masonic Lodge Eureka 40 for 50 years, Captain U.S. Air Force Medical Corps, board of education member for Chesapeake Union Exempted Schools, counselor Boy Scouts of America, Chesapeake Schools Team Physician, American Academy of Family Physicians, American Medical Association, Ohio State Medical Association, Lawrence County, Ohio Medical Society, Cabell County, W.Va. Medical Society, Fellow of Royal Society of Heaalth, Who’s Who of American High Schools, International Who’s Who of Professionals, Who’s Who State of Ohio, Private family practice physician in Chesapeake, Ohio for 30 years with privileges at St. Mary’s, Cabell Huntington Hospital, Jones and Guthrie Hospitals.

Funeral service will be conducted 2 p.m. Wednesday at Hall Funeral Home, by Pastor Kevin Dotts. Burial will follow in Rome Cemetery. Visitation will be 6 – 9 p.m. today at the funeral home with a Masonic service at 8:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Huntington. Katherine Thacker

Katherine Thacker, 85, of Ironton, passed away Sunday, Dec. 18, 2011. The Lawrence County native was born Sept. 2, 1926, the daughter of the late Edward and Dora Hilgenberg Harmon.

She was also preceded in death by her husband, Charles Dennis Thacker, who passed away August 1988.

Mrs. Thacker was a graduate of Dawson-Bryant High School and enjoyed being with her grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two daughters, Mary Ann Morgan and Jean Ellen Thacker; five brothers, Homer Harmon, Eddie Harmon, Dewey Harmon, Chris Harmon and Warren Harmon; and two sisters, Rosemary Beals and Marjorie Neville.

She is survived by two brothers, Stanley Harmon and Tony Harmon both of Forestdale; two grandchildren, Malinda Kay (Morgan) McCoy of Franklin Furnace and Danny (Christy) Morgan of Coal Grove; and three great grandchildren, Brent Dallas McCoy of Wheelersburg, Valerie Ann McCoy and Brent Dillon Morgan both of Coal Grove.

Graveside services will be 12:30 p.m. Wednesday at Woodland Cemetery with Rev. Jim Beals officiating. Jerry Edmonds

GLENWOOD, W.Va. — Jerry Keith Edmonds, 48, of Glenwood, died Sunday, Dec. 18, 2011. Arrangements are pending at Hall Funeral Home.

 

Donald Williams

CHESAPEAKE — Donald Ray Williams, 82, of Chesapeake, died Sunday, Dec. 18, 2011, at St. Mary’s Medical Center. He was the husband of Grace Williams, who survives. Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Hall Funeral Home with the Rev. Jason Paynter. Burial will be in Rome Cemetery. Visitation is 6 to 8 p.m. today. Carl Colegrove

Carl Edward Colegrove, 80, of Ironton, died Sunday, Dec.18, 2011, at Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital in Russell, Ky.

He was born July 21, 1931, in Ironton, where he had resided until a recent move to Trinity Station in Flatwoods, Ky.

Carl was preceded in death by his wife, Nancy (Pyles) Colegove, whom he married Feb. 3, 1951; his mother and step-father, Eugene and Elsie (Colegrove) Gibson; his father, Raymond D. Joseph, and grandparents who raised him, Thomas and Emma (Anson) Colegrove.

Carl was retired from CSX Railroad, and a partner in Colegrove Temco Tractor Parts in Ironton. He also was a past Boy Scout leader for Explorer Post 111 for many years, and was to receive the Silver Beaver award this coming February. He was a member of the old EUB Church; he was recently attending Resurrection Hope Church in Ironton.

Carl is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law, Ralph and Yvonne Colegrove and James and Rhonda Colegrove of Ironton and his daughter and son-in-law, Jeffrey and Charlotte Pickering of Newport News, Va. Grandchildren are Edward and Amy Colegrove and daughter Madison, James (Jay) Colegrove and his fiancé Brittany Norris and daughter Haleigh, all of Ironton, Andrew Corey Colegrove of Youngstown and Jacob and Jennifer Watts and son Carl of Savanna, Okla. He is also survived by two sisters-in-law, Dorothy Pyles and Carlos Pyles, and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at O’Keefe-Baker Funeral Home with Todd Wallace officiating. Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery. Visitation will be 6-9 p.m. today at the funeral home. Donations may be made to Ashland Community Hospice 1538 Central Ave. Ashland KY. 41101.

 

Gloria Lester

SOUTH POINT— Gloria Jean Lester, 66, of South Point, died Monday, Dec. 19, 2011, at Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House of Huntington, W.Va. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Slack and Wallace Funeral Home, South Point, with Pastors Cecil Lester, Steven McCloud and Dave Lester officiating.
