The local team has a chance to win funds from the Pepsi Refresh Project. Local residents are asked to vote, by texting 110377 to 73774 or through Facebook or by logging on to Pepsi http://www.refresheverything.com/swatpride. Supporters may vote daily through Dec. 31.

PRIDE Team adviser Mollie Stevens said if they win, the money will be used to provide youth-led projects such as TLC (Teen Leadership Conference), YEA mentor program outings and the teams’ attendance at the 35th Annual America’s PRIDE Conference in 2012. The Lawrence County team has won the Innovative Education Award for the last two years at annual international PRIDE conferences.

“They’re learning to be civic-minded,” Stevens said of the PRIDE Team members. “They’re being empowered to know they can make a difference in their community.”
