The Coal Grove Lady Hornets are off and running.
The Lady Hornets used their running game to beat the St. Joseph Female Flyers 62-40 on Monday.
“”Our guards did a good job pushing the ball early in the game,” said Coal Grove coach Rick Roach. “We took advantage of our speed and scored some transition layups. We moved the ball well against and made some easy shots.”
Ashley Adkins had 18 points to lead the Lady Hornets (2-0). Darrien Hankins had 12 points and Katey Erwin added 10.
Hannah Miller led St. Joseph with 17 points while Amber Neal scored 10.
Coal Grove took a 16-6 lead at the end of the first quarter and stretched it to 34-15 at the break.
St. Joseph was down 43-25 after three quarters but the Lady Hornets continued to pull away in the fourth quarter.
“St. Joe didn’t foul a lot but when we got to the line we shot the ball better than we did the last game,” Roach said of his team’s 8 of 10 foul shooting.
“(St. Joe coach Nick) Miller has a young team but he has them doing some good things. Hannah will be a tough player in the next couple of years. She does a great job for a freshman.”
