FRANKLIN FURNACE — For the Rock Hill Redwomen, how they started had a lot to do with how they finished.
The Redwomen took a big first quarter lead and went on to beat the Green Lady Bobcats 60-40 on Saturday.
“We wanted to get a lead early. Both teams are young, so we knew it was important to get the lead early,” said Rock Hill coach Alvin Carpenter.
Chelsea Harper led the Redwomen with 20 points including five 3-pointers. She also had three steals.
Brook Knipp scored 14 points — she was 8 of 11 at the foul line —and had three steals. Tommi Butler grabbed 11 rebounds and Morgan Damron 10 as the Redwomen had 35 as a team.
“Chelsea did a great jog shooting the ball. Brook Knipp did a great job defensively and setting the tone for us. Tommi Butler is doing a nice job on the boards,” said Carpenter.
Harper scored 14 points in the first quarter as Rock Hill jumped in front 23-8.
Butler had 6 points in the second quarter and the lead was 35-21 at the break.
Knipp scored 6 points in the third quarter as Rock Hill went up 46-31.
Madison Applegate scored 10 points to pace Green (0-3).
