Flood worries ease throughout county

Heavy rains sent creeks out of their banks and in some places over roadways Tuesday and Wednesday, but local officials said this morning the situation has improved since the rain stopped.
The only two road closures are State Route 650 at the 9 mile marker and State Route 217 near its junction with routes 141 and 378, said Ron Neal of the Ohio Department of Transportation Lawrence County Garage. This is an improvement from Wednesday when several roads were closed.
“We had everything down then, it seemed like,” Neal said.
Ironton police said the only area still affected by high water is Lawrence Street Road just past city limits.
The Ohio River was predicted to crest today at 43 feet; flood stage in Ironton is 50 feet, Mike Pemberton, Ironton Floodwall Superintendent said Wednesday.
