Council to discuss rezoning, street closing

Ironton city council members Thursday will discuss a proposal to vacate a portion of Washington Street from Ninth Street to Jersey Alley and the proposed rezoning of one parcel of land on Liberty Avenue.
The parcel, near the University Mart, is right now zoned partly residential and partly business. The ordinance would revise the zoning to wholly residential.
Council will also be asked to approve a contract with Allard Excavating Company for riverfront remediation. Allard, of South Webster, was the apparent low bidder late last month in the city’s effort to remediate a portion of land along the Ohio River for future use as a riverfront park.
Allard’s bid of just under $894,000 was a $100,000 less than the next closest bid.
The meeting begins at 6 p.m. in council chambers on the third floor of the Ironton City Center. A 5 p.m. finance committee meeting will precede the full council session.
