The Wayne National Forest has named Anne Carey, of St. Louis, Mo., its new forest supervisor.
Carey was appointed to the position this week by the USDA Forest Service’s Eastern Region, headquartered in Milwaukee, Wis. and will start her new assignment next Monday.
As forest supervisor of the Wayne National Forest, Carey will be responsible for managing the forests’ 241,000 acres across two ranger districts in southeast Ohio. The Wayne National Forest headquarters is located in Nelsonville.
“I truly believe in multiple use management as we continue to implement the Forest’s Land and Resource Management Plan,” said Carey, in a prepared statement released by the park service this week. “I look forward to meeting the employees and our partners as we continue the good work that the Wayne National Forest is known for throughout the Forest Service.”
Forest spokesman Gary Chancey said Carey will spend her first week being briefed on the progress of activities in the forest and meeting with her leadership team. She will also make site visits to various districts to meet with rangers and other field staff, he said.
Carey previously served as the District Ranger of the Hoosier National Forest in Indiana. She replaces interim forest supervisor Peter Williams, of Fort Collins, Colo., who was appointed following the departure of forest supervisor Jo Reyer in May who took a position with the Hiawatha National Forest in Michigan’s upper peninsula.
