West ran 63 offensive plays to just 41 for the Panthers as the Senators managed a 21-7 win on Friday.

“We moved the ball but we had some turnovers and some breakdowns. And when they had the ball they just kept moving the ball and keeping it from us,” said Panthers’ coach Andy Clark. “West played well. They didn’t make any mistakes.”

Chesapeake (3-2) came out and took a 7-0 lead on a 4-yard run by Dylan Nichols on the second series of the game. The touchdown was set up by quarterback Austin McMaster’s 70-yard run.

McMaster led the Panthers in rushing but he had only 24 more yards the rest of the game on six carries. Chesapeake had 117 yards rushing on 21 carries as a team.

Conversely, West (5-0) rushed 55 times for 235 yards and hit 4 of 8 passes for 46 yards. McMaster was 10 of 20 passing for 97 yards but suffered two interceptions.

“We had a lot of missed opportunities to score. We couldn’t move the ball consistently. The defense played pretty well and our effort all night was pretty good,” said Clark.

“But West is a good team. They did a good job keeping the ball from us.”

After Chesapeake took the early lead, West came back to tie the game on a 1-yard run by Kyle Auger on a fourth down play in the second quarter.

The Senators took a 14-7 lead when Justin Crace scored on a 4-yard run, also on a fourth down play. In fact, all of the West touchdowns came on fourth down.

The Senators got an insurance score in the third quarter when Levi Ratliff hit Adam Bricker with a 25-yard fourth down pass.

Defensively, Brandon Noble had 14 tackles and T.J. McCoy 13 for the Panthers. Zack Frye had two interceptions for West.
